Banning isn't useless as long as you hit their primary accounts.
When people have to change from their always-used account to another, it takes time. Keep in mind that your main account has all the saves from every game you play, not just this RPG. "I have to change account to play just 1 RPG!?"
I think people are less likely to name change then use a no-banlist cheated map or play an older version of the map (before they were banned). This means the problem isn't banning a name, but that there are multiple solutions to the problem of being banned.
I think the more dire problem is that you cannot change the banlist of an older map without releasing a new update. This is something that cannot be fixed though because of the engine Warcraft 3 maps run on.

No it's definitely useless. It takes a grand total of about fifteen seconds to make a new account and to switch between them. And if somebody bothered to cheat in the first place they can do it again.

You're forgetting the point that on their new account, they will have no friends, it becomes an inconvenience for them. Also to get back all the items does not take 15 seconds, unless they memorized all the stuff they need to get.
So as long as people provide reports, i'll provide the bans.

It takes about 3 minutes to create a newly hacked T4 character. This is probably about less than the total time the reporter and HvsH have to take from themselves to process the report. Banning is just a slight inconvenience to the hacker because they will just have to take 10 seconds to spoof as their new account. If they don't want to spoof they can just create a new account. There is absolutely no point to banning hackers. It will only keep the retarded hackers from playing again.

The best option is probably just IP ban the hackers, and hope they don't know how to proxy. ; )

idk why u even would want to hack unless it makes u feel strong cause u can beat boss but it still ruins the fun of an rpg

I don't know about other people, but I do it to help others. You can also use hacks to find exact boss info, such as understanding meph. Once you understand the boss, I can create a strategy in order to kill it with a large group.

No, there's a little fun to it. I played the game through normally first but didn't feel like grinding for eight thousand hours to experience other characters. Now I have a full roster without spending an actual year grinding. No regrets. Also, helping other people get Baal flags is a nice bonus to give back to the people that helped me up the first time.

It's still the fact that there are people that take their time to get it, and then those people just hack and get it in like 5 minutes.
BUT hey man. Yolo. You do you, I don't mind.

but i mean, who cares enough that much for one rpg that they would keep hacking new chars? i dont see the fun in that, if you played legit and worked your way up through the true fun, then none of the hacking accusations really matters
